From the desk of the President:  Tom Doane

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you that made our summer specialty show such a success!  It always impresses me how everyone pulls together to make our guests feel welcome, the show go smoothly and get everyone well fed.  We always get many compliments from participants, attendees, and the judges.  I want to specifically thank Linda Kulow for being the glue that holds our club together, Erika Enders for creating and maintaining our new website, and Marylou Mäder for taking on the new responsibility of being our membership secretary and producing this News brief.  Thanks to all of you for a great year.

As for 2009 , plans are well underway for next summer’s specialty show.  We decided to host and educational seminar, and Dr. Marty Greer of the Veterinary Village in Lomira has agreed to give a presentation on Degenerative Myelopathy (DM).  Now that we have a DNA test to indicate if a dog is cleared , at risk, or a carrier for DM, we have to consider this information in our breeding program.  As Dr. Greer is a breeder of Welsh Corgis, another breed susceptible to DM, she is a great choice to help us understand this disease, the test and how we can use this information.

Due to the busy holiday season coming, we will not have another meeting until January.  I hope you all have a very wonderful Holiday Season and a great start to the New Year.  Let’s all work to make 2009 a great year for ourselves and for the Boxer Club of Milwaukee.
